How to prepare Fufu in Ghana. Foofoo or Fufu is made from cassava, which is also known as yuca.

It is a starchy root vegetable, similar to sweet potatoes, russet potatoes, and yams.

Fufu is easy to make and delicious. It is not eaten alone, and it is served with a form of rich and flavorful soup or stew such as EbunuEbunu Soup, palm nut soup, egusi soup, okra soup, ewedu soup (Jute leaves), or light soup.

Spatula

Fufu machine/blender

Knife

Pestle

Mortar

 

 

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

Cassava

Unriped Plantain

Yam

Cocoyam

Neat fufu powder/flour

water

 

 

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE FUFU IN GHANA

Making Fufu with Machine/blender:

Peel cassava and plantain or cocoyam. Cut into pieces and wash until clean.

In a saucepan, under high heat, place cassava and plantain pieces into pan and add water to cover.

Cover with lid and cook until soft and tender. Drain and set aside for it to cool down

When cooled down, set your machine in motion and add your cooked cassava. Grind it until smooth. Add moderate water when needed.

Place cooked plantain pieces in machine and repeat process. Combine cassava and plantain together and mix until smooth.

 

Making Fufu with Flour:

Pour a reasonable amount of neat fufu powder into a clean dry pot

Mix with water into until you obtain a thick paste

Stir mixture consistently and thoroughly ensuring no lumps are formed.

Under medium heat, place pot on fire. Stir continuously.

As the paste gets thick, knead using a spatula into a dough. If it’s hard, add more water.

Allow it to cook under low heat with lid covering it(Make sure to stir to prevent the bottom from burning). Remove from fire and allow it to cool down

Shape it into sizes you want after cooling

 

Making FuFu with Mortar and Pestle:

Cook cassava and plantain and set it aside to cool down.

Wash your mortar and pestle throughly

Pound cooked cassava, plantain and or yam together.

Add little amounts of water whiles pounding until a thick consistent paste is achieved

Pound until smooth

Serve with your soup of choice
