Lamugine or Hausa beer is a beverage from the Northern part of Ghana. This local drink that is typically produced using a grain, for example, millet or sorghum ,Tiger nuts and rice.

It has a hot spice flavor that recognizes from different beverages. Follow the directions on how to prepare Lamugine at home.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad use to gather around with friends during hot summer to have a drink time using lamugine. I loved how after taking the drink, they could smile and talk with each other for hours. Its very refreshing and amazing.

Glass Mixing Bowl

Blender

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR HOW TO PREPARE LAMUGINE

1 cup uncooked Rice

1 teaspoon Cloves (pepre)

2 stems of Ginger

Sugar to taste

1 1/2 cups Water

Vanilla/Banana essence (optional)

 

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE LAMUGINE

Soak rice over night to soften it. The next day, wash and rinse with water. This step is optional, you can avoid soaking the rice and simply blend it.

Pour the rice in a blender then add ginger, cloves and water (Add water depending on the quantity of rice you used)

Blend mixture until a smooth mixture is obtain.

 Sieve or strain mixture with a fine mesh. Add sugar and vanilla/banana essence

Put it in a glass jug and refrigerate it or  you can enjoyed with ice cubes.
