Saucijzenbroodjes ( Dutch Sausage Rolls)
This is a Dutch dish consisting of meat that is wrapped in puff pastry.It is a popular snack that can be found at numerous Dutch fast food joints, street stands, bakeries, and train stations.
Although the name suggests that the dish contains sausages, that is not the case–it is filled with ground beef that is spiced with nutmeg and black pepper.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
250g half-and-half minced meat
1 sambal oelek
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
2 Eggs
2 bread-crumbs
salt
freshly ground pepper
10 leaves puff pastry
DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE Saucijzenbroodjes ( DUTCH SAUSAGE ROLLS)
In a large bowl, mix the minced meat with the sambal and grate in the nutmeg. Mix the minced meat with 1 egg and the breadcrumbs. Season with salt and pepper. Roll small sausages from the minced meat and place in a cool place.
Let the puff pastry sheets thaw and brush with the other, beaten egg. Place the sausage on top and fold the dough in half. Press well. Let the sausage rolls rest in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 190ºC. Brush the top with the egg and bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
