2 Mins read

South African Bobotie Recipe is a delicious mixture of curried meat and fruit topped with milk and egg mixture and baked to perfection with a creamy golden topping.

This recipe is a national dish of South Africa. Similar to a lasagna or moussaka, you can make this dish ahead and either keep it in the fridge or freeze it.

WHAT IS BOBOTIE TRADITIONALLY SERVED WITH?

Bobotie is traditionally served with yellow rice, some would add slices of banana on the side, chutney, apricot, or some pickle.

Some also serve roasted butternut squash, toasted coconut, peas and Tomato & onion salad

Bobotie is such a comforting dish with a wonderful mix of flavors. Savory and meaty, but with that touch of sweetness and spice.

It’s no wonder it’s a South African favorite, and hopefully it will soon be one of your favorite dish.

Then add ground beef and stir constantly to break it up, cook until beef is no longer pink or slightly brown.

Stir in the spices: curry powder, turmeric, ground cumin, 2 bay leafs, coriander and dried herbs for about 4mins. Remove from the stove.

Pour the egg mixture over the beef. Arrange the bay leaves on top of it .

Bake for another 20 minutes  until the eggs mixture has set and starting to turn brown
