Homemade Salmon Croquettes

Salmon croquettes are basically a southern version of a salmon cake or salmon patty. It can be fried or baked. They are pan fried on each side in a medium sized skillet until golden brown.

In this article, we are going to learn how to make salmon croquettes athome with ease.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

1 can pink salmon

1 large egg, lightly beaten

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1/3 cup yellow cornmeal

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 tablespoons self-rising flour

1/8 teaspoon garlic salt

1/2 cup finely diced onion 

1 large egg

2 cups vegetable oil

1/4 cup finely diced green pepper

 

 

DIRECTIONS ON HOMEMADE SALMON CROQUETTES

Frying Method

  1. Drain salmon; remove skin and bones, and flake.
  2. Add salmon, flour, onion, green pepper, egg, salt, pepper flakes and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Combine together until well combined.
  4. Add cornmeal to a plate and set aside.
  5. Shape medium to small sized patties then carefully roll in cornmeal and set aside.
  6. Add oil to cast iron skillet and heat until oil reaches 375.
  7. Fry croquettes until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes on each side, and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve keep warm on a wire rack.

Baking Method

  1. After mixing, grease baking pan with oil. Place croquettes evenly on the baking sheet.
  2. Bake on each side for about 10 minutes on both side until golden brown.
