How to prepare Akyeke 

Akyeke (Attiéké, Acheke) is a delicacy made from grated cassava and usually served with fried fish, stew, soup and ground pepper.

“Akyeke” is a local delicacy of the people of Nzema in the Western Region of Ghana.

The dish is prepared from fermented Cassava that has been grated and steamed.You can use Gari which is fermented grated and fried Cassava to prepare Akyeke

Akyeke  is very popular in the western parts of Ghana and Africa. In Côte d’Ivoire, it is called Attiéké.

 

 

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

1cup of dried attieke

1 cup of water

2 teaspoons of olive oil or palm oil

2 jalapeno peppers, diced

1/2 medium onions, diced

Salt to taste

Seasoning cubes (Optional)

Tuna (optional), sliced

 

 

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE AKYEKE

In large a bowl, mix attieke and water. After complete absorption of water, stir attieke with a fork.

Under low heat, pour attieke into a pan and steam while stirring for about 4 minutes or Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove from from heat and bowl in a large bowl

Add oil, tuna, diced onion & pepper, salt and cube. Stir to combine. Serve warm with stew of choice.
