How To Prepare Rice Porridge
All around the world, rice porridge recipe is consumed and eaten with different varieties of toppings.
In France, it is called riz au lait, In Portuguese and East Asian countries it is called Congee or canja. In Denmark, rice pudding is called isalamande and is eaten at the traditional Christmas meals. And in Ghana, it is called Rice water
Rice water can made with any rice of choice such as, Local rice or Brown rice. I normally use Jasmine rice to prepare mine.
Rice water is an ideal meal if you want to skip lunch. It’s heavy which can help last you for quite a while.
I prefer eating rice water with Bread/biscuit, Fried egg, Groundnut, Milk of choice
EQUIPMENT
Cooking saucepan
Ladle
Serving bowl and spoon
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup rice of choice
5 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
honey/ sugar any sweetener of choice
powdered or evaporated milk
DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE RICE PORRIDGE
Soak the uncooked rice in water overnight(Optional) in a large bowl.
Wash rice and drain. Pour in a large saucepan with 5 cups of water and put on a high heat.
Boil rice until the rice is tender and soft(You can add more water if rice is still hard). Lower heat and add salt and allow it to simmer
You can mash the rice in the saucepan to form a smooth- pudding like consistency. Remove from heat. Pour in your serving bowl
Allow it to cool and add sweetener of choice. Serve with milk of choice, groundnut, bread
